Abstract:Tao Yuamming,a precursor of a type of pastoral landscape poetry or idyll so to speak, was an outstanding poet in the history of Chinese poetry. He had enriched poetry by bringing into it the subject matter of countryside life and landscape and thus opened up a new field of poetry writing. What's more,he had endowed the realm of Chinese poetry with a new type of aesthetic beauty, that is,the beauty of simplicity and rusticity, which had "passed through the ages with lingering charm".The eternal charm of Tao Yuanming's idyll can be shown in four aspects, mainly, pure and simple style, integral and deep conception, concise and natural language, and forever lasting true meaning. The reason of his idyllic charm being immortal can neither part with his life experience nor social cultural atmosphere at his time, together with his own subjectivity.Talented in various genres of prose and poetry,Tao described in his writings both the natural beauty and his rustic life, permeated with his antipathy for the privileged and his aloofness in the status quo.Tao's works occupy such an important place in the history of Chinese literature that they had exerted great influences on the poetry creations of later generations.
